U.S Coast Guard Heartland operating from Southeast Louisiana to assist crews in Texas

AND SPORTS WITH FLETCHER MACKEL. SCOTT: FROM AIR TO LAND, THE U.S. COAST GUARD CONTINUES TO RESCUES THOSE IN NEED FROM RISING FLOODWATERS. SULA: WDSU’S CASEY FERRAND METrt WITH OFFICIALS FROM THE COAST GUARD’S HEARTLAND COMMAND CENTER. CASEY WHAT ARE THEY DOING TO , HERE TO HELP CREWS IN THE rtFIELD? CASEY: THE COMMAND CENTER IS IN THE CBD IN THE FEDERAL COURTS rtBUILDING. THEY HAVE BEEN HELPING TO COORDINATE 4500 RESCUES AND COUNTING IN THE TEXAS AREA. THE COMMANDER SrtAYS THIS MISSION HAS BEEN PARTICULARLY DIFFICULT. TODAY, A LOT OF THE COAST GUARD’S EFFORTS HAVE SHIFTED FROM HOUSTON TO BEAUMONT AND POrtRT ARTHUR, TEXAS, BECAUSE THEIR CREWS ABLE TO WORK IN BAD WEATHER CONDITIONS, UNLIKE SOME OTHERrt AGENCIES. WE’RE TOLD THE PACE OF CALLS FOR HELP COMING IN FROM PORT ARTHUR REALLY PICKED UP AROUND MIDNIGHT, WITH MORE THAN 1,000 CALLS FOR HELP COMING INrt EACH HOUR. RIGHT NOW, THEY HAVE 7 BOAT TEAMS AND 17 ROTARY WING AIRCRAFT PULLING PEOPLE OUT OF FLOODED AREAS. THE COMMANDER SAYS THERE WILL BE HUNDREDS, IF NOT A THOUSAND MORErt RESCUES IN THE PORT ARTHUR AREA TODAY. BUT THIS LINGERING STORM HAS MADE THINGS MORE DIFFICULT. rt>>IF WE COULD JUST GET THAT WATER TO SHUT OFF FOR AWHILE, I THINK WE’LL BE ABLE TO REALLY GET THIS UNDER CONTROL. rtBUT IT’S CHALLENGING CONDITIONS TO FLY IN, CHALLENGING FOR OUR GUYS ON THE BOAT CREWS, SO THE WEATHER HAS CERTAINLY BEEN THE BIGGEST OBSTACLE.rt CASEY: THE COMMANDER IS ACTUALLY ENCOURAGING PEOPLE WHO NEED TO BE RESCUED TO CALL 911, AND NOT rtPOST ON SOCIAL MEDIA, BECAUSE THOSE CALLS ARE LOGGED. AND IF THERE IS A LARGE NUMBER OF CALLS FROM ANY PARTICULAR NEIGHBORHOOD, THEY CAN DIRECT RESOrtURCES THERE. LIVE IN THE CBD, CASEY FERRAND,
