Coast Guard updates search on missing boaters

IS AT THE PRESS CONFERENCE RIGHT NOW. GOOD AFTERNOON, I WANT TO GIVE A QUICK UPDATE ON THE SEARCH AND RESCUE CASE ON OS TIN AND TERRY COIN. JUST TO RECAP, EARLY AFTERNOON, WE KNOW THEY DEPARTED JUPITER INLET WHEN A 19 FOOT CRAFT WENT OFFSHORE. IT WAS NOTIFIED LATE AFTERNOON THAT THEY WERE OVER DUE. SO WE IMMEDIATELY WENT INTO SSARCH PLANNING EFFORTS AND STARTED TO SATURATE THE AREA WITH ALL AVAILABLE RESOURCES AS WE COULD. SO AS MOST OF YOU KNOW, YESTERDAY, WE DID LOCATE THE 19 FOOT PLEASURE CRAFT THAT WAS CAPSIZED. IT WAS APPROXIMATELY SIX FEET SEVEN NAUTICAL MILES TO THE EAST OF SAINT AUGUSTINE. BASED ON THIS INFORMATION. WE RECALCULATED SOME OF OUR SEARCHS AND FOCUSSING A LITTLE BIT NORTH TO THAT POSITION TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE GULF STREAM. THAT WAS A CRITICAL PIECE OF INFORMATION THERE. OUR INTENTIONS ARE TO CONTINUE TO SEARCH AGGRESSIVELY AS OF MIDNIGHT TONIGHT WE’LL HAVE EXECUTED 32 DIFFERENT SEARCHS. COVERING 30,000 SQUARE MILES. THAT’S ABOUT THE SIZE OF WEST VIRGINIA WE’VE PULLED AIRCRAFT FROM THREE STATIONS. INCLUDING NORTH CAROLINA. WE’VE HAD A NAVY SHIP THAT’S BEEN AASISTING US. CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION AIRCRAFTS PROVIDED ASSISTANCE. FISH AND WILDLIFE COMMISSIONS HAVE ASSISTED AS WELL AS PALM BEACH AIR CONFERENCE. IT’S BEEN AN ALL HANDS ON DECK TYPE EFFORT. WE WILL CONTINUE TO SEARCH AGGRESSIVELY. WE WILL REEVALUATE OUR EFFORTS EVERYDAY AS WE MOVE FORWARD. AND UMM, ONE THING I CERTAINLY LIKE TO NOTE IS THE COAST GUARD DEDICATES ITS BEST EFFORTS TO EVERY SEARCH AND RESCUE CASE. THIS CASE CERTAINLY HITS HOME. I HAVE A 13-YEAR-OLD AND A 14-YEAR-OLD SON AT HOME. SO THIS RESONATES OBVIOUSLY WITH ME. AND I CAN EMPATHIZE WITH THE FAMILIES INVOLVED. SO I’LL BE GLAD TO TAKE QUESTIONS. (INAUDIBLE) THAT CAPSIZED BOAT FOUND (INAUDIBLE). IT IS POSITIVE NEWS, AND IT HELP US VALIDATE OUR SEARCH EFFORTS THAT ARE THAT WE’RE LOOKING IN THE RIGHT AREA. OBVIOUSLY DISAPPOINTED THAT THE BOYS WERE NOT CLINGING TO THAT. BUT IT HELPED US VALIDATE OUR SEARCH EFFORTS. NOW WE CAN RECALCULATE THE DRIFT ANALYSIS THAT WE WERE TAKING INTO ACCOUNT, WIND, SEAS, CURRENT, AND RECALCULATE THAT SEARCH EFFORT. (INAUDIBLE). YEAH. 32 DIFFERENT SEARCHS, 20 OF THOSE WERE FOR AVIATION ASSETS. SET WERE FOR SURFACE ASSETS. THAT INDICATES — EACH ONE VARIES IN LENGTH AND DISTANCE IN THE TYPE OF ASSET THAT WAS INVOLVED. BUT EACH SEARCH PATTERN WAS CALCULATED SPECIFICALLY WHERE WE THINK THE BOAT AND NOW THE BOYS MAYBE. (INAUDIBLE) A GRID PATTERN. YEAH, THEY ARE BASED ON OUR BEST KNOWLEDGE USING A LOT OF COMPUTER PROGRAMMING AS WELL TO FIG WHIR OUT WHAT IS THE MOST LIKELY PROBABILITY FOR FINDING AUSTIN AND PERRY. (INAUDIBLE). IT’S WHERE WE’RE SEARCHING RIGHT NOW. TO THE NORTH OF THAT CAPSIZED VESSEL. CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE CONDITIONS OF THE WATER (INAUDIBLE). YOU KNOW, PRETTY GOOD SEARCH CONDITIONS RIGHT NOW. IT’S NOT HEAVY SEAS. BUT I WOULD TELL YOU WE ARE LOOKING FOR, I DON’T KNOW, TWO BOYS. AND WHEN A PERSON IS IN THE WATER, YOU’RE BASING FOR THE CHEST UP. IT’S A RELATIVITY SMALL OBJECT THAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR. &- IT’S CAP KATED BY WAVE ACTION, ANYONE WHO’S BEEN ON THE WATER, YOU KNOW ITTS CONTINUALLY MOVING. THERE’S THINGS LIKE WHITE CAPS THAT MAKE II HARD TO SEE JUST ABOUT ANYTHING. SO IT’S A CHALLENGING ENVIRONMENT. WE’RE GOIIG TO KEEP SEARCHING AGGRESSIVELY. BUT IT’S A CHALLENGING ENVIRONMENT. (INAUDIBLE). WE WILL CONTINUE TO SEARCH AGGRESSIVELY. WE WILL CONTINUE TO DO THAT. AND WE’LL RECALCULATE AND REEVALUATE OUR EFFORTS EVERYDAY. HOW LONG COULD A PERSON SURVIVE IN THAT WATER? (INAUDIBLE) FAMILIES FIND OUT WHAT WAS ON THE BOAT AT THE TIME (INAUDIBLE) TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS ON THE BOAT. I KNOW THEY FOUND A LIFE VEST AND THE COVER WAS OFF US IS THERE ANY IDEA OR ANY INDICATION THEY COULD HAVE A LIFE VEST WITH THEM? IS THERE ANYTHING — ANY CLUES (INAUDIBLE). FIRST, WE ARE IN CONTACT WITH THE FAMILY. WE HAD PEOPLE THAT WORKED FOR ME. VISITED WITH THEM TODAY ON WHAT OUR SEARCH PLANS AND FUTURE EFFORTS ARE. WE DON’T KNOW HOW MANY LIFE JACKETS WERE IN THE BOAT. WE SAW THE ONE FLOATING, OBVIOUSLY. WE ARE HOPEFUL THAT MAYBE THEY BOTH HAVE LIFE JACKETS ON. WE DO ALWAYS TRY TO EMPHASIZE ANYONE THAT GOES ON THE WATER MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE PROPER SAFETY EQUIPMENT. LIFE JACKETS, A RADIO TO CONTACT PEOPLE. FLAIRS, OTHER TYPE OF SEARCH AND RESCUE TYPE LIFE SAVING EQUIPMENT. WE ALWAYS CONTINUALLY EMPHASIZE THAT. SO WE’RE NOT EXACTLY SURE WHAT OTHER MATERIAL THEY MAY HAVE HAD. BUT WE’RE CERTAINLY HOPEFUL THEY HAD LIFE JACKETS. (INAUDIBLE). SURE, WE, WE EXECUTE A LOT OF SEARCH AND RESCUE CASES EVERY YEAR. PEOPLE CAN SURVIVE IN THE WATER RELATIVELY WARM. BUT IT’S A DANGEROUS ENVIRONMENT. AND THERE’S ONLY SO LONG YOU CAN STAY IN THE WATER ESPECIALLY WITHOUT A BOAT TO FLOAT ON. (INAUDIBLE). WE GO BY SURVIVABILITY TABLES. AND IN WARM WATER, YOU COULD SURVIVE FOR QUITE A FEW DAYS. SO. IT’S UMM, IT’S 4 TO 5 DAYS IS THESE CONDITIONS. TWO QUESTIONS. (INAUDIBLE). WE DON’T KNOW WHY THEY CAPSIZED. YOU KNOW, THE ENGINE COLL COLUMN WAS REMOVED FROM THE ENGINE. COULD INDICATE THEY WERE DISABLED AND TRYING TO WORK ON THAT ENGINE. WE DON’T KNOW. (INAUDIBLE). NO. NOT THAT — I DON’T KNOW WHAT THEIR REAL EXPERIENCE WAS OTHER THAN WE KNOW THEY LEFT JUPITER & INLET AT A CERTAIN TIME AND WENT OFFSHORE TO FISH. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTION, GET
